
Women's Tennis vs IU Indy and Butler
The Holy Cross College Saints women's tennis team competed on September 21st and 22nd at IU Indy, facing off against both IU Indy and Butler. The tournament showcased a mix of standout performances and hard-fought matches.
Singles Results:
In the first round, Sofia Rocha (Rio de Janerio, Brazil) delivered a dominating performance, winning her match decisively with scores of 6-1 and 6-2. Leah Gonzales- Edwards also shone brightly, clinching her match in a tightly contested battle with two set wins of 7-6.
Other matches saw mixed results, with Victoria Savvides (Limassol, Cyprus) facing tough competition, losing 6-2 in both sets. Jamison Geofferys (Anderson, Indiana) had a rollercoaster match, losing the first set 6-1, winning the second 7-6, and narrowly losing the third set 10-8. Anna Vanderhyde (Grand Rapids, Michigan) and Nicole Martinez (Villavicencio, Colombia) faced challenges as well, with Anna losing 6-3 and 6-0, while Nicole lost 6-2, won 7-5, and lost 10-8. Emery Porter (Breman, Indiana) put up a though battle but ended the match losing 6-0 and 6-2, while Marin Woelfer dispite her efforts was unable to secure a win, losing 6-0 in both sets.
In the second round, the Saints found some success. Victoria Savvides rebounded strongly, winning her match 6-4 and 6-0. Sofia Rocha demonstrated resilience, coming back after losing the first set to win with scores of 1-6, 6-1, and 10-5. Emery Porter finished her match on a high note, securing a three-set victory with scores of 6-7, 6-4, and 7-0.
Doubles Results:
The first round of doubles proved challenging for the Saints, as they were unable to secure any wins. However, the team bounced back in the second round, with the duo of Victoria Savvides and Leah Gonzales- Edwards emerging victorious with an impressive 8-2 win.
The Holy Cross College Saints compete in eight intercollegiate sports for men and women. Holy Cross has produced 205 Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference All-Academic Team honors and 108 All-Conference members, and seven NAIA All-Americans.
