SAINTS ADVANCE IN CCAC PLAYOFFS WITH THRILLING 3–2 VICTORY
Notre Dame, Ind. — The Holy Cross College women's soccer team delivered a resilient postseason performance on Tuesday night, defeating Indiana Northwest 3–2 in the first round of the CCAC Tournament at Saints Field.
Despite falling behind in the 27th minute to a set piece from the RedHawks, the Saints responded immediately. Just 56 seconds later, Abigail Fouts buried a header off a perfectly served ball from Yuki Mita corner kick, leveling the match at 1–1 and igniting the home crowd.
Holy Cross controlled much of the second half and took its first lead in the 58th minute when Miriam Iturriaga-Sanchez capitalized on another service from Mita, slotting home the Saints' second goal. Indiana Northwest continued to battle and equalized in the 82nd minute.
But the Saints had the final answer!
Off a corner in the 85th minute, Sofia Brodar rose above the defense and headed in the game-winning goal—Mita once again providing the assist for her third of the night. The Saints defense closed out the final minutes to secure the postseason win.
Holy Cross outshot Indiana Northwest 21–15 and held a 9–3 advantage in corner kicks. Goalkeeper Montserrat Alvarez Torres made nine saves in the victory, including several key stops late in the match.
With the win, Holy Cross advances to the CCAC Semifinals.
