Saint dominate with a 6-1 match over Governors State

The Holy Cross College Women's soccer team kicked off their conference play with an impressive win on Saturday afternoon, dominating Governors State with a 6-1 victory. The Saints showcased their offensive talents, with standout performances from several players.

Roselyn Gonzalez (Valparaiso, Indiana) opened the scoring with a goal assisted by Miriam Iturriaga-Sanchez (Goshen, Indiana), setting the tone early in the match. Miriam Iturriaga-Sanchez then found the net herself, with help from Avery Peters (Northville, Michigan). Annabella Alfreda (Las Vegas, Nevada) and Neyda Macias (Ligonier, Indiana) both contributed unassisted goals, further solidifying Holy Cross's commanding lead. Roselyn Gonzalez returned the favor by assisting Miriam Iturriaga-Sanchez, for her second goal of the game, and Abigail Fouts (Russiaville, Indiana) capped off the scoring with a goal assisted by Arianna Barreras (Rio Rancho, New Mexico).

Goalkeeper Madeleine Agee (Houston, Texas) put forth a solid performance, facing five shots on goal and making four crucial saves, allowing only one goal.

The Saints' remarkable teamwork and strategic play were evident throughout the match, and they look to build on this momentum as the conference season progresses. With a conference opener victory under their belts, Holy Cross stands ready for success in the upcoming games. They now stand at 3-5 with 1 conference win.

COACH COMMENTS

"Word of the week was believe. Can we believe in each other to play together as a team. I think we did. Great team effort from everyone. Most importantly getting those 3 conference points was the biggest win of the day. Team is starting to play well and picked up at the right time for conference play. We managed to possess the ball more and that opened up a lot of plays. We took more shots and it paid off. 5 different scorers with Miriam having a brace. First time collegiate goals from Bella, Neyda and Roselyn." - Duma Magagula
