
Saints Win 6-1 Against Marian University
NOTRE DAME, Ind. — The Holy Cross College men's tennis team delivered a dominant performance on April 2nd, securing a 6-1 victory over Marian University at the Eck Tennis Pavilion. The Saints controlled the match from start to finish, claiming the doubles point and winning five of six singles matches.
The Saints set the tone early with a strong showing in doubles. At No. 1 doubles, Oscar Wai (Hong Kong, China) and Naithaolin Golmei (Tyler, Texas) put on a clinical display to take a 6-3 win. Matthew Jezky (Oak Brooke, IL) and Ciaran McCarthy (Portmarnock, Ireland) followed suit at No. 2 doubles with a convincing 6-2 victory. In the deciding No. 3 doubles match, Adam Singleton (Manchester, England) and Perry Gregg (Chicago, IL) edged out their opponents 4-3, clinching the opening point for Holy Cross.
In singles play, Holy Cross continued to dominate. At No. 1 singles, Perry Gregg fought through a grueling three-set battle, ultimately prevailing 6-1, 6-7, 7-6 in a hard-fought contest. Matthew Jezky delivered a commanding 6-1, 6-1 victory at No. 3 singles, while Oscar Wai and Naithaolin Golmei mirrored each other's results with dominant 6-2, 6-2 wins at No. 4 and No. 5 singles, respectively. Polis Koursaros (Limassol, Cyprus) sealed the victory at No. 6 singles, battling to a 6-4, 7-5 triumph.
The Saints' only setback came at No. 2 singles, where Luca McManus fell 6-3, 6-4 to James Ashworth. Despite the loss, Holy Cross demonstrated depth and resilience across the lineup, showcasing their ability to perform under pressure.
With the win, the Saints continue to build momentum as they head into the final stretch of the season. Holy Cross will look to carry this success forward in their next matchup.
