NOTRE DAME, Ind. — The Holy Cross College Men's Soccer team secured a strong 2-0 win over Huntington University on Saturday evening at King Stadium in Huntington, IN.
The Saints wasted no time getting on the board, as Daniel Alfaro struck just 46 seconds into the match with an impressive unassisted goal that set the tone early. Alfaro doubled the lead in the 28th minute, finishing off a pass from Anthony Panayiotou to give Holy Cross an advantage.
Despite Huntington outshooting Holy Cross 15-10 and generating 8 corner kicks, the Saints' defense held firm. Goalkeeper Isaias Rubio anchored the back line, making 5 crucial saves to record the clean sheet.
The victory pushes Holy Cross to 1-1-0 on the season, while Huntington falls to 0-2-2.
"I am really proud of how the team bounced back after a tough loss a few days ago. Each loss provides us with a chance to grow and learn. We discussed the importance of taking a 2-0 lead again, but this time we focused on maintaining that advantage going into halftime. We understood that if we kept up the pressure, we could secure the results we wanted. Overall, it was a strong performance from everyone, but we still have areas to improve on to maintain consistency, especially against teams like HU. We'll celebrate this win over the weekend and then shift our focus back to training on Monday to prepare for a solid Oakland City team." - Head Coach Omar Gallo
Men's Soccer will be looking to continue their winning streak on Saturday September 6th on Saints Field against Oakland City. Kickoff is set for 12PM.
