Holy Cross Men’s Soccer Celebrates Four Players Named to CCAC All-Conference Team

The Holy Cross College Men's Soccer team had a standout season, culminating in four players earning CCAC All-Conference Second Team honors: Martin Von Thun(Grimma, Germany/ Wilhelm Bracke Comprehensive School) Nathan Sanchez (Guanajuato, Mexico / West Chicago HS), Juan Perez (Logansport, IN / Logansport HS), and Isaac Filippo (St. Joseph, MI / Marian University's Ancilla). This recognition highlights the Saints' impressive turnaround in 2024, driven by strong defensive performances and key contributions from senior leaders and emerging freshmen.
Defensive Contributions: Martin von Thun and Nathan Sanchez
Senior Martin von Thun and freshman Nathan Sanchez anchored a formidable Saints defense that improved significantly from 2023. The team conceded just 13 goals in CCAC play this year, down from 17 the previous season. Also a special shout out to Junior Goalkeeper Sebastian Grimm (Holtebuettel, Germany/ Gymnasium am Wall, Verden) for an amazing season with 4 shutouts. In the final seven games of the season, the defense allowed only four goals while earning four shutouts.
  • Martin von Thun: A four-year defensive stalwart, von Thun capped his Holy Cross career as an All-American and left an indelible mark on the program with the fewest goals conceded in a four-year span. His captain leadership was pivotal in the Saints' upset victory over Judson in the CCAC quarterfinals, where he scored a crucial goal.
  • Nathan Sanchez: Starting every game as a freshman, Sanchez emerged as a two-way player, tallying six assists, ranking him in the top six across the conference for defenders. His recognition as one of only two freshmen named to either CCAC All-Conference team underscores his exceptional debut season. He becomes the third freshman in program history to earn All-Conference honors, following Tristan Alfaro and Ian McTurk (2013 CCAC Freshman of the Year).
Offensive Contributions: Isaac Filippo and Juan Perez
Seniors Isaac Filippo and Juan Perez were key offensive catalysts for the Saints, helping create scoring opportunities and breaking records in their final seasons.
  • Isaac Filippo: A reliable presence in 19 of 20 games this season, Filippo notched seven goals, four assists, and 18 points. His offensive IQ and vision consistently unlocked defenses, and he finished his career with 16 goals, 10 assists, and 42 points.
  • Juan Perez: Perez rewrote the Holy Cross record books in 2024, setting new marks for career goals (27) and points (65). This season alone, he recorded 11 goals, four assists, and 26 points, cementing his legacy as one of the Saints' all-time greats.
Building Momentum
The Saints' 2024 campaign was defined by resilience, growth, and remarkable individual performances. The team's defensive improvements and record-breaking offensive contributions have set the stage for continued success, as Holy Cross aims to build on this season's momentum.
Congratulations to Martin von Thun, Nathan Sanchez, Isaac Filippo, and Juan Perez on their well-deserved CCAC All-Conference honors! The Saints' future looks bright, and the program thanks its seniors for their incredible impact on and off the field.
