Men's Soccer Wins in Exciting CCAC Playoff Quarterfinal Win
The Holy Cross College Saints men's soccer team secured a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Judson University in the quarterfinals, booking their ticket to the semi-finals on Monday, November 11th, against Trinity Christian College in Palos Heights, Illinois.
It was a gritty contest right from the start, with both teams putting up a strong defensive showing in the first half. The Saints registered four shots on goal, while Judson's relentless offense tallied nine. However, neither team could break the deadlock before halftime.
In the second half, the Saints found the breakthrough in the 53rd minute. Senior defender Martin von Thun delivered the decisive goal, expertly capitalizing on a perfectly placed corner from Freshman Nathan Sanchez to Senior Juan Perez, who then played the ball into the box for the assist. Von Thun's skillful finish energized the Saints and provided the edge they needed to hold off Judson for the remainder of the match.
With this victory, the Saints advance to the semi-finals with their sights set on Trinity Christian College. This win demonstrates Holy Cross's resilience and determination to keep their season alive, with just two more games standing between them and a championship opportunity.
Coaches Comments
"I'm extremely proud of our guys. Their discipline on the defensive side really paid off against one of the top attacking teams in our conference. Today was an opportunity for this group to grow together, and that's exactly what they did. When one guy missed a tackle, the next guy was there. When one guy missed a header, the next guy was there. Today was a special moment for our program going in as the #7 seed and knocking off #2.
It's important to enjoy and embrace these moments because they don't come often, but come tomorrow, we'll need to get back to work and prepare for a tough TCC team." - Omar Gallo
