Holy Cross loss to Huntington
The Holy Cross College men's soccer team had their home opener for regular season play Saturday afternoon vs Huntington. Holy Cross would enter halftime down 2-1. This game was nothing less than exciting, with the first goal from Huntington and the first goal from Holy Cross being less than a minuet apart. The men's team played hard for 90 minuets, show casing their ability to stay in the game, with 2 of their goals being in the last 10 minuets of the match, unfortunately the HC men's team still recived a 5-3 loss. They showed resilience throughout the game, and overall it was just little mistakes that cost them goals against. Even though they could not quite overcome the Huntington's strong performance, Holy Cross showed amazing potential for the rest of their season. Holy Cross is currently holding a record of 1-3-0 for the season.
COACH COMMENTS
"Another tough result today in a match that I felt was the best we've played all season. The scoreline may tell different, but we conceded 4 goals on restarts. As competitive as we are and disappointing as the result is, there's much to be positive about. We scored 3 great goals, and our defensive pressure was spot on, and I felt tactically we were disciplined. We must clean up the little things and realize that in all moments of the game, we must stay locked in, especially on restarts. We'll continue to improve on the areas we are excelling in and make adjustments in the areas we are lacking. The number one thing that stood out today was our resilience and willingness to not give up. In the blink of an eye, the scoreline went to 4-1, and to be able to compete and score 2 more goals in the final 5 min is something to be proud about. We've conceded a goal in the last 5 min of the 1st three games of the season. To score 2 in the final 5 is a step in the right direction. All of these teachable moments will prepare these guys for conference play and, more importantly, life.
We will need our fans out there Wednesday in hope to bounce back." - Omar Gallo
