Men's Basketball falls to Governors State

Men's Basketball falls to Governors State

Before the game, the Holy Cross College men's basketball team took a moment to honor their 6 seniors – Justin Milch (Pacifica, CA / College of San Mateo), Jordan Montrose (Irvine California / Irvine Valley College), Nash Hostetler (Dublin, OH / Dublin Coffman HS), Justin O'Neal (Dayton, OH / Dunbar HS), Hunter Zezovski (St. John, IN / Don Bosco Prep), and Phil Robles II (South Bend, IN / Purdue Fort Wayne) – for their hard work and dedication to the program. The Holy Cross College men's basketball team put up a strong first-half effort against Governors State, heading into the break with 40 points on the board. Justin O'Neal led the Saints with 11 first-half points, shooting 4-of-12 from the field while adding 3 assists and 2 steals. Phil Robles ii provided a key spark from beyond the arc, knocking down three three-pointers for 9 points. Nash Hostetler came off the bench and made an immediate impact, scoring 10 points on 4-of-5 shooting, including 2 three-pointers. The Saints moved the ball well, recording 7 assists as a team, with O'Neal, Hostetler, and Joey Garwood (Elkhart, IN / Penn HS) each contributing. Defensively, they forced turnovers and grabbed 15 total rebounds, with Milch and Montrose controlling the boards.
Second Half:
Despite a strong second-half effort, the Holy Cross College men's basketball team was unable to overcome a slim deficit and fell 90-81 to Governors State. Joey Garwood had a standout performance, scoring 16 points, including 2 three-pointers and hitting 4 free throws. Phil Robles ii contributed another 9 points while knocking down 3 more three-pointers, continuing his shooting form from the first half. Nash Hostetler added 6 points off the bench, shooting 3-of-5 from the field. After the break, O'Neal and Milch had to fight through tough shooting stretches, with O'Neal finishing with 14 points for the game despite a 1-of-9 shooting performance in the second half. Brembilla contributed 4 points and 4 rebounds, while Garwood, Robles II, and Hostetler combined for 31 points in the second half, but it wasn't enough to overcome the deficit. Despite solid contributions from the entire roster, including 5 assists and 7 steals, the Saints couldn't make up ground on Governors State's strong shooting. The game ended in a close finish, and with O'Neal's late-game efforts and Garwood's scoring surge, the Saints gave themselves a chance, but Governors State held on to secure the victory.
In addition to Senior Day celebrations, Nash Hostetler was recognized for an impressive career achievement – reaching the 1000-point club at Holy Cross College. This milestone is a testament to his consistent scoring ability and dedication throughout his time with the team. Hostetler has been a key player for the Saints and has solidified his place in program history. His scoring contributions and leadership will be remembered as he finishes his final season at Holy Cross College.
