
Saints fall to Calumet College 88-73
First Half
The Holy Cross College men's basketball team found themselves in a tough battle against Calumet College of St. Joseph, heading into the break trailing 52-39. Despite a strong offensive effort from key players, the Saints struggled to slow down Calumet's scoring attack in the first half. Joey Garwood (Elkhart, IN / Penn HS) led the Saints with an efficient first half, scoring 19 points on 7-of-9 shooting, including a perfect 3-of-3 from beyond the arc. Justin O'Neal (Dayton, OH / Dunbar HS) also played a significant role, adding 15 points while going 6-for-6 from the free-throw line. The duo accounted for a majority of Holy Cross' scoring output. While the Saints shot a solid 13-of-28 from the field and an impressive 5-of-11 from three-point range, they were outrebounded and struggled to generate second-chance opportunities, failing to record a single offensive rebound in the half. Additionally, turnovers proved costly, with 5 giveaways limiting their ability to build momentum.
Second Half
The Saints were unable to overcome a halftime deficit, falling to Calumet College of St. Joseph 88-73 in a tough road contest. The Saints trailed 52-39 at the break and struggled to close the gap in the second half, shooting 12-of-34 from the field and just 7-of-14 from the free-throw line . Justin O'Neal and Joey Garwood led the second-half scoring with 11 points each, while O'Neal also pulled down 6 rebounds. Davide Brembilla (Alghero, Italy / Don Bosco Prep) contributed 2 points and 3 assists in the second half, but the Saints struggled to match Calumet's efficiency. Despite knocking down 3 second-half three-pointers, the Saints couldn't overcome their struggles on the glass, managing just 5 offensive rebounds compared to 24 defensive boards. Holy Cross will look to regroup and bounce back in their next conference matchup agaisnt St. Francis (IL) on Feburary 5th at home.
