Matias Rocha - Men's Soccer
Holy Cross College is proud to highlight the exceptional contributions of our student-athletes, both on and off the field. Junior men’s soccer player Matias Rocha, originally from Fortaleza, Brazil, embodies the spirit of the Saints through his dedication to Holy Cross’ four pillars of character; scholar, leadership, and citizen and disciple.
Reflecting on his journey, Matias shared, “I am incredibly honored to be named a Saint, and I’m grateful for the opportunities I’ve had to make a positive impact.”
Supporting Students from Brazil
As a member of the Holy Cross College soccer team, Matias has embraced the opportunity to connect with others in meaningful ways. One memorable experience was supporting young Brazilian students learning English at Cathedral School of St. Matthew in South Bend, Indiana. Leveraging his own background and language skills, Matias translated instructions to help the students better understand their lessons and feel more confident. His efforts not only assisted their academic progress but also inspired them to work hard and achieve great grades. After reconnecting with the family during Thanksgiving, he has continued to stay connected, strengthening the bond he formed through his mentorship.
Life Work Ministry Projects
Matias's passion for giving back extends beyond the Holy Cross campus. He has been actively involved in two impactful projects with the Life Work Ministry.
Fundraising Banquet: Matias contributed to organizing a banquet to raise resources for the ministry’s vital work, showcasing his commitment to making a tangible difference.
PD1 Futsal Program: Matias plays a key role in this program, which provides free futsal training for kids. His contributions help foster both athletic development and personal growth, emphasizing values of teamwork, discipline, and faith.
Through these experiences, Matias has demonstrated the values that define a Holy Cross College Saint: service, leadership, citizen and disciple.
Holy Cross College is proud to call Matias Rocha one of our own.
We can’t wait to see how he continues to inspire and impact the community.
Go Saints!
