Saints Fall 3-0 to Marian in Home Opener

Notre Dame, Ind. — The Holy Cross College women's soccer team dropped its home opener Thursday evening, falling 3-0 to Marian University at Saints Field.

The Saints (0-1-0) held strong through the opening 45 minutes, keeping the Knights off the board behind a stellar defensive effort and 6 first-half saves from goalkeeper Janiah Juarez. Despite Marian controlling possession and outshooting Holy Cross 11-0 in the first period, the Saints' backline remained composed to send the match into halftime scoreless.

Early in the second half, momentum shifted when Holy Cross went down a player after a red card in the 49th minute. The Knights capitalized on the advantage, scoring three goals in an 11-minute span. Marian opened the scoring in the 56th minute, followed in the 61st, and in the 67th to seal the result.

Goalkeeper Payton Ladson anchored the Saints in the second half with 5 saves, finishing with 11 total team saves on the night. Despite the final scoreline, the Saints showed grit defensively, battling through a physical matchup that featured 24 combined fouls.

The Saints return to action on Saturday, August 23, when they host UNOH at Saints Field, with a 3PM kickoff!
